Coach trip to Düsseldorf

Several members of the Association joined a coach trip to Düsseldorf from 3 to 5 December 2004, with employees of Reading Borough Council.  The party was welcomed at the Christmas Market in front of the Rathaus by Matthias Buchwald of the Düsseldorf City Council.  We spent a pleasant day visiting Christmas markets and other sights in Düsseldorf and meeting old friends.

Annual General Meeting 2004

Our AGM was held in the Kennet Room, Civic Offices, Reading at 8 pm on Thursday 18 November 2004, and was chaired by the Mayor, Councillor Richard Stainthorp as our President.  Chris Barlow agreed to take over as Secretary, Misbah ud Din volunteered for press and publicity work, and Jeanette Skeats (who was Mayor in 2003-4) was also elected to the Committee.  We heard very interesting and lively presentations from Thames Valley Chorus, Caversham Boys AFC and Reading School on their links in the last year.

Royal Visit to Düsseldorf

It's not one of our own activities, but we were very interested to hear that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visited Düsseldorf on Thursday 4 November 2004.  Information about her visit can be obtained from the British Embassy website.  We wished Her Majesty a pleasant day.

Barbecue

Our Barbecue took place on Saturday 17 July in  John and Regula Adams' garden.  About 40 members and friends were present, including the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Riaz Chaudhri, and several members of the Barbados and Friends Association.  With plenty of good food, lovely weather and enjoyable conversation, we had a very pleasant afternoon.

Annual Dinner 2004

Our Annual Dinner was held on Friday 30 April at The Crown at Playhatch, with the Mayor as our Guest of Honour.

Wine and Cheese Evening

On Friday 5 March, we had a Wine and Cheese Evening.  The speaker was Matthias Buchwald, the Town Twinning Officer of Düsseldorf City Council, who spoke about Düsseldorf's links with cities in all parts of the world, including Moscow, Warsaw, Haifa, Chemnitz, Chongqing and Toulouse.  More information (in German) ...
