Talk to the History of Reading Society
On 18 March 2009, the Chairman (Robert Dimmick) gave a talk to the History of Reading Society about the history of the Association. In preparing for this talk he did some new historical research about our origins, which will be used later to update this website.
Meanwhile, the text of the talk is available here as a PDF file (1.9 Mb).
Wine and Cheese Evening
At our Wine and Cheese Evening on 3 April, we held a Quiz Night at which members and guests answered questions about Düsseldorf and a wide range of other topics.
Annual Dinner
We held our Annual Dinner on 24 April, once again at the Maltsters, Rotherfield Greys. We were delighted to welcome the Mayor (Councillor Peter Beard) and Mrs Cynthia Beard as our guests.

Links between Schools
We have written to all schools in Reading offering to help them to set up email links with schools in Düsseldorf, and we look forward to a positive response.
Annual Barbecue
The Barbecue was held as usual on Saturday 18 July at the home of Regula and John Adams. We had good weather and a pleasant time together.
Sadly, John was then seriously ill, and he died a few weeks later on 6 September. We remember his commitment to the Association, and record our sympathy and gratitude to Regula.

Autumn Outing
On 19 September we had an informal outing to Basildon Park, a historic house near Reading. Some looked round the house, while others enjoyed a long walk in the grounds.

Annual General Meeting
The Mayor and President of the Association, Councillor Fred Pugh, presided at the Annual General Meeting on 5 November 2009.
The Chairman, Robert Dimmick, proposed that Martyn Allies should be an Honorary Vice President of the Reading Düsseldorf Association, which was agreed by acclamation. You can read the Chairman's remarks here.
We had two speakers. Alfie Hay spoke about the ways in which schools can work together across international boundaries. Alec Hayton (formerly Secretary of the Association and recently Mayor of Wallingford) described how Wallingford's twinning with Luxeuil in France had become inactive, why he had suggested ending the link, and how it had then revived (see also here in French).
