Welcome to the website of the Reading-Düsseldorf Association.

We're a voluntary organisation in Reading (England) devoted to promoting and developing friendship between the peoples of Reading and Düsseldorf in Germany.  We believe that peace and co-operation between nations are most firmly founded on personal friendships and mutual understanding.

Reading and Düsseldorf have had close links since 1947, just after the end of the Second World War.  Our friendship is one of the oldest relationships between towns anywhere in the world.  It has developed into an official twinning between the towns, but it also involves people in surrounding areas such as Earley, Woodley and Tilehurst near Reading, and Neuss near Düsseldorf.

The Association is a group of people who wish to support and encourage this friendship.  Its main task is to help organisations and businesses in Reading to establish partnerships with corresponding groups in Düsseldorf.  It also holds meetings to inform people about Düsseldorf, to raise funds, and to entertain members.

The link with Düsseldorf is backed by Reading Borough Council, which provides advice and information, and supports co-operation with other twinning groups in Reading.  The Mayor of Reading is the President of the Association.  The Association raises its own funds and does not receive regular grants from Reading Borough Council or other public authorities.
